I have a child who left LJS in July 2016 and a child in Year 4.  I joined the Governing Body in 2012 and have been Chair of Governors since September 2015.

I work as Sales Manager for an Engineering company.  As Sales Manager I have to have skills in budgeting and planning, people management, time management, and project management.  My background as a Mechanical Engineer gives me strong analytical skills and critical analysis which hopefully help in the Governor role of critical friend to the school.

I have two grandchildren who attend Larkfields Junior School.

I have spent 40 years working in Primary Education as a teacher, Head Teacher and a School Improvement Advisor with the Nottinghamshire Advisory and Inspection Service.

Throughout my teaching career I have been a Governor at 5 different schools and therefore have an extensive knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Governors.  As an Advisor I undertook a great deal of Governor training for the local authority.

I am pleased to be able to use this experience as a Governor to support the future development of Larkfields Junior School.

As a governor at Larkfields Junior School since 2016, I believe it is important to find new and innovative ways of supporting the development of all children and young people, in an environment where they are safe and with the continued encouragement and involvement of their family networks.

I have four grandchildren, two of whom previously attended Larkfields Junior School.  My career has included working for local government departments and the Civil Service.  I have experience of recruitment at work and as governor at Larkfields.

The safeguarding of adults and children within our communities is of great importance and I am the current governor safeguarding link in liaison with the Head teacher and fellow governors.

The opportunity of working with children on a voluntary basis as a Literacy Volunteer in Nottinghamshire and with the Right to Read Scheme whilst working for HMRC was rewarding and I aim to give more time to promoting reading with children once I retire.  I have promoted learning and Reading Ahead as part of my role as Union Learning Representative within local government.

Both my children have attended Larkfields Junior School.  I have been both Secretary and Chair of the Friends of Larkfields, organising Christmas Fairs, Family Fun Days, discos, etc.  I was also a parent reading volunteer and helped on school trips.

In my life before children, I worked as a Business Systems Analyst, investigating and analysing business processes and procedures, looking at how to make them more efficient and I developed testing and staff training for ICT systems.  I also have experience in credit control.  I started working in the School Office in 2011, so can bring my knowledge of how the school runs to the governors meetings.

I believe that every child is entitled to an excellent education which encompasses a wide and varied range of subjects and experiences.  Above all learning should be fun!  As a school we should provide the pupils of Larkfields with the skills and confidence to achieve their future goals.
